Its late summer and we all know what time that is…….. Conference time. Thats right all the big conferences (except shmoocon) happen around late summer. Every year all the conferences make badges for the people to access misc things at the events. Well Defcon always has the best badges and this year is no different ! Introducing the The Ninja Party Badge is all about ninja battles between badge holders. Each badge can detect other badges in the area and allows the wearer to fight them. Winning a fight means more experience points.

The fun doesn’t stop there though. Base stations running Android and placed around the party will collect information about these battles and post up results on a leaderboard. Did we also mention virtual items are awarded for completing missions too, which can then be used as power-ups during fights?

The DefCon Ninja badge is like a real-life equivalent of an MMO and is sure to be a hit with DefCon attendees. The cost of creating the badges has been covered by Facebook and Lookout sponsorship.

Read more and see a load more images of the badge at Wired.com

Are the flaws in Adobe’s product line becoming the cybercriminal’s favorite exploitation tactic? Depends, since from another perspective malicious attackers don’t have preferences, they exploit whatever is exploitable.

Well for those who would love to have a test lab and don’t have the room or money. I got a great way to turn cheap hardware to a efficient virtual lab.

See this all started when I realized that my lab constist of 3 PCs that ran all the time. The CPU utilization on each of these servers was around 5%

Not enough to justify the use of the electricity, So i was ready to do something about it.

First i took note of the hardware i was using (Powerhog 1. Pentium 4 2.6ghz 2gb ram and a 160 gb ide HD) (Powerhog 2. Pentium 4 2.8ghz HT with 2gb ram 120gb Ide HD (Powerhog 3. Pentium 3 1ghz 512ram 2- 160gb ide HD). I know lots of old hardware, but it worked great for a test lab.

So i had my old gaming rig just sitting around recently decommissioned (Asus motherboard Pentium D 2.8ghz 3gb ram 250gb SATA2 HD).

Next thing i did was grab a spare 500gb hd and add to the system for the datastore. Also installed some gigabyte NICs so some of my vm’s can be assigned to a real nic. Well after i got the hardware squared away it was time to install the os and software to get things rolling.

Installed Ubuntu Server 8.10 to the 250gb drive installed webmin and VMserver2 for administration and set up Samba so i can push images from any PC .

Mobile Parabolic Dish with SMA connection

Well this one is for you Hackers… I put Jasager on my Fon+ and the standard 1.5dbi antenna is way to weak to have any fun so we built this little device out of stuff laying around…..
This one came together like MacGuyver
I was driving home from work one day and seen this old Dish Network Satellite in a pile of junk waiting for the trash man, So i grabbed it for reasons unknown at the time just knew i would make something out of it.
Later on that week i go to a garage sale and find the camera tripod for $2.00 and thought hmmmm…..
What can i use this for well you guessed it made a quick release for the dish to the tripod added a SMA extension cable and a directional antenna and your favorite router (Fon+ with Jasager or my modded WRT54G). Works like a charm
Update: Will be adding biquad dish antenna instead of the 5dbi one now used!

So you just bought a Fonrea and thought you were a Hacker… Now it wont Boot ? No Problem

Fon Serial Port Install

Warning: Applying these changes to your Fonera+ will void it of its warranty. FON does not support these modifications and will not be held responsible for their consequences. This should only be done by advanced users.

Well i got my new Fonrea 2200 (AKA Fon +) and me and my friends decided to put Jasager on the little guy well somewhere in the middle of that we bricked it. : ( In looking for a solution i found a couple of ways to unbrick the Fon, You can buy a USB Cable for Kyocera KX440 KX433 KX444 K4130 K404 K9 cut off the end and wire that up. Or make custom cable building some jumpers out of cdrom audio cable/ Power switch. When you are performing this i found that you have to power the device up with just Rx and Tx connected then after a second or two connect the ground to get it to work most of the time. You can tell when this needs to be done because when you try to start a serial connection you will see a bunch of garbage across the screen. So me and my friend’s decided to install a more permanent solution. Check the gallery to see how we did it.
